Scout! Coloured Flower Cards, Chapter 1
Writer: Akira
Season: Summer
Characters: Souma Kanzaki, Keito Hasumi, Natsume Sakasaki (and Anzu)
Location: 2-A Classroom
T/L notes:
- Souma and Anzu are playing a card game called 'Koi-Koi' using Hanafuda (wikipedia link)
- By becoming the 'oya' (parent/dealer), Souma is gaining the 'lead' (winning in terms of the flow of the game)
- Souma's 'lessons' (keikogoto) refer to the traditional arts such as tea ceremonies, flower arrangements, dance, music etc.
- The title for the stories are "Asaki Yume Mishi", which is a line in the Iroha poem (wikipedia link). I cut the title short to just 'Superficial Dreaming' but the full meaning is "throughout my life, I've been having superficial dreams" [and continuing with the poem, "thus I shall not be deluded any longer"]
Superficial Dreaming - 1
Keito: Sorry to intrude
Natsume: Good Afternoon, eggheaded Vice President
Do you have some business with Class 2-A, perHAPS?
Keito: Don’t call me an egghead like a Yakuza would. I’m well aware that I’m hated by you, but you’ll find it’s easier to live if you hide that malice a little bit more
Natsume: Yes, yES, spare me your preaching……
But it really is rARE for you to come all this way to our classroom. You’re the important Vice President after all, isn’t it fine for you to summon the underclassmen to your headquarters inSTEAD?
Keito: It’s because I have business with someone that doesn’t have any means of being called upon, so I have to walk towards where they are, you understand?
Natsume: Ah…… So that means you have business with Souma-kun, hUH. In this day and age, that kid strangely enough doesn’t carry a smartphone around with hIM
So you have no choice but to use the old-fashioned way of contacting him, is what you’re saYING
Keito: It saves me time that you catch on fast. Is Kanzaki here?
Natsume: He’s hERE. Look, he’s playING around in that corner of the classroom
Souma: Come, come, let’s have a fair game now…… ☆
Keito: Hmm. It’s getting unusually heated—it’s certainly like that of high school boys
But I’m glad, it seems like they’re having fun…… He’s an odd one after all, so I was worried if he was being isolated in class or not
Natsume: AhaHA. It’s not rare to have “odd people” in the current Yumenosaki Academy, or should I sAY, the environment has become easier to breathe iN
Especially in Souma-kun’s cASE, he’s mellowed out since becoming a second year
But whatEVER. It’ll mortiFY me if others think that I’m getting along with the Vice President so I’d rather not spend too long talking to you. I’m going to leave now, oKAY
Keito: Yeah, go, go. Sorry to catch you on your way out of the classroom, Sakasaki
Natsume: No worrIES. It was bad timING, no, perHAPS it was bad luck…… MayBE I’ve also become infected by Senpai’s misfortune?
Keito: (...... He’s gone. He’s a weird one as usual. Is this where I should remark ‘as expected of a former member of the “five oddballs”’?)
(But previously, whenever we ran into each other, he would throw beans at me or harass me and such……)
(If you compare that to now, then I feel as if we’ve been able to considerably engage with one another peacefully)
(He hasn’t forgiven us, or anything probable like that. But it must mean that Sakasaki is also changing)
(From the start, he was already largely perfected, so I thought that he was the type to not have much room for growth)
(Fufu. The underclassmen changing for the better—such remarkable development always surprises me)
<Souma’s Unbloomed CG>
Souma: Yoooshi, this here Souma Kanzaki is the Oya*! At last, I am able to gain the lead*...... ☆
Keito: …… Hmmm?
Souma: Fufuun, I have a pretty decent hand. I shall be taking this round, Anzu-dono ♪
Keito: …… Kanzaki. What is the meaning of this—what are you and Anzu talking about? Depending on the circumstances, I’ll have you put up with my lecturing for at least almost an hour
Souma: Oh, Hasumi-dono! Well now! What brings you here all the way to my classroom?
If you call upon me, should there be an emergency, I shall proceed towards you from wherever I am!
Keito: Even for me, I think it’s inefficient to have to come see you for every little thing
But I’m at my wit’s end, because no matter how many times I remind you, you don’t carry your smartphone on you
Smartphones these days are becoming easier to use even if you are unfamiliar with technology. That being the case, Kiryuu or I will strictly guide you on how to use it
Souma: Ahaha. So you are opening with a lecture. That is very like Hasumi-dono to do
Leaving that aside, what business really brings you here?
Keito: Hmm. There’s a small job for us this weekend…… So after class today, I want you to come by the martial arts hall. I want to have a briefing session with the three of us regarding that matter
Originally, today is supposed to be “Akatsuki's” day off from activities, so if you have previous arrangements, I won’t mind if you place that as your priority
Souma: Hahaa. I see, I understand how it is. I am greatly obliged by your concern, but as I have no lessons* or plans for today, I shall be able to participate in the briefing session
Keito: Is that so, then I’m glad. It’s troublesome to repeatedly explain the same thing over and over again—it’s easier if it can be done in one go
Well then, after class, I want you to come by the martial arts hall and I won’t mind if you take your time either
Souma: Understood. But to come all this way just to run an errand—time and time again, I am truly sorry
Since it is Hasumi-dono, I believe that you would summon me using methods such as via the broadcast, but—
Keito: You, you said something about that being disgraceful~ or other, so you dislike that method, right. Summoning someone by broadcasting it within the campus doesn’t really give off a good impression to the onlookers
Rather than relying on the broadcasting committee to make an announcement, it can also be easier to walk to the second year classrooms like normal. So don’t worry about it too much, Kanzaki
I got to see how you ordinarily conduct yourself within the classroom, after all. Surprisingly, it seems like you were having fun so that’s a blessing
