(Sutamai) Daily Mini Talk, 21 December 2017

21 December 2017

Characters: Revel.

Title: The multi millionaire's birthday, now and then

-The Hiyama Estate: Gardens-

December 21st.

Hiyama: …… The you on cold days is truly beautiful.
There are many things that I can compare you with to spring, but I believe that you are also plenty wonderful blooming in winter.

Otani: There you go again talking to the plants as if it were natural.
Won’t it make all girls happier if you said those lines to them instead?

Hiyama: …… So you’ve already arrived, Hatori.
Aren’t these Christmas roses beautiful?

Kagura: Actually, we’re all here.

Maki: We decided to come all together seeing that we might as well.

Hiyama: ……! Is that so? Thank you all for coming. I must express my gratitude.

Kagura: It’s no big deal since it happens every year.

Maki: But is it really okay to do it at your place, Hiyama-kun?

Otani: Wouldn’t it have been better to completely hire out a place somewhere like usual?

Maki: We should still be able to reserve out a cafe somewhere even now…

Hiyama: Not a problem. It was I who thought of wanting to celebrate here this year.
Sometimes it’s nice to have a simple birthday party too.

Otani: …… Oh my, did something happen?

Hiyama: Yes. It’s nothing really, but… I was thinking that I want to return to the beginning.
That’s all there is to it.

-The Hiyama Estate-

Kagura: … I don’t believe this.
Just because they’re close in date, you celebrated both your birthday and Christmas together? Are you serious…?

Maki: (If that same thing had happened to Aki when he was little then he probably would have sulked…)

Hiyama: The Hiyama Household back then did not have the luxury of throwing twice the celebrations.
Incidentally, the cake was pancakes.

Kagura: Unbelievable. That’s not even a cake.

Otani: That’s because you haven’t tasted poverty, Kagura.

Kagura: Excuse me? I don’t want to hear that coming from you, Hatori.
It’s not an issue of money. I’m saying that there were other ways of celebrating it.

Hiyama: Let’s leave the talk of past hardships there.
To sum up, I was simply recalling by chance things that had happened long ago.

Maki: … I see. So that’s why you wanted to celebrate in a non-ostentatious way.

Hiyama: Of course, I’ve prepared a standard whole cake so you need not worry.
The tea is also Mackwood’s orange pekoe.

Otani: Yep, it has a lovely scent, alright.

Kagura: Well, if it’s the tea that Hiyama-kun picked out then there should be no problem.

Otani: It sounds like you had all sorts of sentiments there, but…
Isn’t it okay to enjoy the now as it is all the while treasuring your past?

Kagura: You were able to rise up all the way here using your own strength after all. You’ve attained the happiness that you were after.

Hiyama: “Happiness” is it……
In that case, I can say that I was happy from since long ago.
Even after the Hiyama Group was on the decline, and though there were not many, we did have allies…
More than anything, my happiness now is not due to having money but because I’m blessed with the people around me.
For I have friends who would celebrate with me in this manner.

Otani: Well now……

Kagura: ……!

Maki: …………

Hiyama: ……?

Maki: … I see. Happy birthday, Hiyama-kun.

Otani: Happy birthday. I hope that this year will also be another good year.

Kagura: …… Happy birthday. We all chose the present for you so can we give it to you later?

Hiyama: ……
Thank you, everyone.

It appears that the bonds between friends will outrival any large venue or extravagant cake.
