Title: An angel or a devil

 

Characters: Yamazaki Kaname & Miyase Go

 

Summary: An original illustration and short story is here to celebrate the opening of this special feature! What of this unexpected talk starting from a single magazine on a certain day at the Kujo household?

 

“Fine by me. But it’s not my fault if I get a devil’s result or something.” - Yamazaki Kaname

 

“I’m sure that everyone in the Kujo Household besides myself is an angel.” - Miyase Go

 

 

Lying deep in the forest, and in the living room of the Kujo household were the figures of those two people today as well. 

Just as the ordinary day was dyed in a sunset red, their true natures were now being uncovered from an unthinkable angle…… 

 

Miyase: I’ve prepared the tea. Please help yourself to some, Kaname-kun.

 

Kaname: Thanks.

 

Miyase: But even so, you’re reading a difficult-looking book today too…… Oh, well now. Is that a fashion magazine?

 

Kaname: Yeah. My classmate shoved it onto me, saying that the personality quiz in it was interesting. I somehow ended up reading it is all. 

 

Miyase: Haha, so it was your friend’s magazine.

 

Kaname: It’s not like they’re my friend or anything...

 

Miyase: So what sort of personality quiz is it?

 

Kaname: …… Your eyes are kind of sparkling, Go-san. 

 

Miyase: That’s because those sorts of readings are exciting, don’t you think?

 

Kaname: Really? Well, alright then. Here, it’s the one on this page.

 

Miyase: Which one now?...... “See how much of a little devil you are in love. Which type are you: a devil, a little devil, an angel or an archangel?”

Kaname: Nope, not yet.

 

Miyase: If you did, your result would no doubt be an angel. 

 

Kaname: My classmate told me that I’d definitely be a little devil though.

Miyase: That’s…… Oh, I know. How about we give it a go right now?

 

Kaname: Fine by me. But it’s not my fault if I get a devil’s result or something.

 

Miyase: Not to worry, because you’re clearly an angel. Well then, umm. To start off, we add up the numbers in your date of birth, and…… 

Right, first question. A kitten is looking your way and meowing. Which of these is the reason?

One, it’s hungry. Two, it wants to be held. Three, it’s trying to get your attention. Four, it just is. 

 

Kaname: Probably three.

 

Miyase: Next question then.

 

The genius high schooler, Yamazaki Kaname. Will it be that he’s an angel or a devil, or perhaps……

 

Miyase: Now then, I’ll announce your results.

 

Kaname: …… 

 

Miyase: In order to get the other person to look your way, you continue to wholeheartedly yearn for them. You truly are…… an angel!

 

Kaname: What…… 

 

Miyase: See! I told you! It was correct for you to be an angel. “Upon first glance, you appear to be indifferent to everything. But deep inside, you’re likely the angel type who’s pure and concealing away a tender kindness.” That’s what’s written here.

 

Kaname: I don’t get the feeling that something like that is hidden inside me though.

 

Miyase: That’s not true at all. You’re an angel that warms up the place, Kaname-kun.

 

Kaname: Hold on. What’s up with that?

 

Miyase: The atmosphere in the Kujo household softens when you’re around. And when you laugh, everyone else naturally smiles too.

 

Kaname: …… Hey, Go-san.

 

Miyase: Yes?

 

Kaname: I’m pretty sure this is a reading on love. 

 

Miyase: …… Huh? Oh, err…… I-It just means that you’re very much an angel for the Kujo household, and not just in terms of love.

 

Kaname: (I feel like he really forced it with stretching things, but…)

Miyase: Haha. You’re welcome. Now then, could I also get you to do a reading on me next?

 

Kaname: Got it. I’ll ask the questions then. 

 

Miyase: Yes, please.

Kaname: “For the you who toys around with the other person as you please, you’ve surpassed that of a little devil, and are likely a devil.” Huh? You, Go-san, a devil?

 

Miyase: Me… a devil……

I don’t see what part of you is a devil though. 

 

Miyase: I wonder about that. It may surprisingly be right on the mark?

 

Kaname: What…… 

 

Miyase: Because…… 

 

Kaname: …… 

 

Miyase: I was able to super befriend the black cat that wandered in lost into the gardens before! Plus, I’m actually also friends with the crows that I meet at the garbage disposal.

 

Kaname: What exactly about that makes you a devil?

 

Miyase: What’s more, the devil is someone who brings about disasters. And I’m always causing accidents around the house. 

 

Kaname: But we’re all used to it by now, so I don’t think it counts?

 

Miyase: Haha, you’re all kind people. I’m sure that everyone in the Kujo Household besides myself is an angel.

(No one’s probably thinking…… that mixed in among them is a demon like me.)

…… Oh, this quiz… It’s supposed to be done while recalling the person you’re interested in. 

 

Kaname: You’re right. It’s noted down in fineprint.

 

Miyase: (Would my result change if I did it while thinking of her?)

 

Kaname: (I wonder if the outcome will be any different if I do it while thinking of Onee-san.)

 

Miyase: (No, wait. In the first place……)

 

Kaname: (Huh, I unknowingly did it while thinking of her anyway.)

 

As the genius high schooler and servant came to grips with their individual results, their thoughts ran of a romance with “her” and their angel and devil selves. Seemingly as though to symbolise the two’s flickering emotions, the rosy sky silently gave way to the setting sun and shifted into an indigo colour in no time at all……
